Fashion News: Victoria's Secret Helps with Sandy Relief

Sandy's Unknown Hero: Victoria's Secret Saves The National Guard

Victoria's Secret has its place: in your underwear drawer, mixed into the occasional Halloween costume, and a must-visit on your latest shopping spree. But in a disaster zone? Well, apparently, the underwear giant came to the rescue in NYC during a dark moment for the National Guard, as the military reserve force dealt with Hurricane Sandy recovery.

The brand had brought eight 500-kilowatt generators downtown to prepare for the annual televised Victoria's Secret fashion show, but ended up handing them over to the National Guard at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning to provide heat, hot water, and power to the 69th Infantry Regiment headquarters. In possibly the century's best quote, Captain Brendan Gendron said, "We were dead in the water until Victoria’s Secret showed up."

The National Guard was still without reliable cell service and completely out of an Internet connection, which is very important in its efforts to coordinate rescue missions. So, the VS team came to the rescue again! It had already organized some kind of fancy broadcasting connection via a microwave dish for the show, and VS graciously allowed the Guard to use that, as well. The phrase "Victoria's Secret Angel" just took on a whole new meaning. (NYMag)
