Nonni and New York: Homemade Pizza

I am so excited to introduce the newest section of my blog... Nonni and New York!  Now for alliteration purposes and creative writing I must note however, that Nonni also means Poppy as well, had to make it clear ;)  There is nothing I love more than my grandparents and the great, always energetic beautiful city of New York.  These two subject mean the world to me and are such a big part in my fashion journey.  I will be showing the behind the scenes of my stays with my grandparents  (since I stay there when I commute to NYC) and their adorable love for each other and Italian heritage as well as different hot spots and scenes in the great apple.  Hope all you fashionistas like me enjoy a little Nonni and New York in their lives.

For the first Nonni post, HOMEMADE PIZZA.  I know, can it get any better... well I guess tasting the pizza, but I'll leave that to you all!

Ingredients
  • Yeast Packet
  • Nonni's sauce
  • Flour
  • Water
  • Onion
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Toppings of your choice
  • Red Pepper
  • Olive OIl
  • Garlic
  • Oregeno
  • Sugar
  • Parmesan Cheese
1.) Heat up tomato sauce on the stove.  Add olive oil, onion, garlic, oregeno and pepper.  Drain water from the sauce to make thicker.
2.)  1 cup warm water added to yeast packet in bowl.  Add sugar and stir.  Wait for bubbles.
3.)  Add flour into a seperate bowl with salt and olive oil.
4.)  Mix yeast and flour bowl together.  Roll dough together.
5.)  Cover the rolled dough and wait for it to rise.
** Nonni's trick:  Pole finger at dough and wait for it to not deflate, that is how you know it is ready.
6.)  Put olive oil and pizza pan.  Roll dough out on pizza pan.  Again, cover the dough and wait for it to rise.
7.)  Grate mozzarella cheese.
** Nonni's trick: Use frozen/ very cold cheese... it is easier to grate it.
8.)  Put a light sauce layer on the pizza and cook for 10 mins at 350 degrees.
9.) Take out pizzas and add rest of the sauce, Parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese on pizza.  Add garlic powder and oregeno before putting it back in the oven.  This is where you add any additional toppings of your choice as well.
10.)  Cook for 15-30 minutes at 400 degrees.
11.) Smell the deliciousness and enjoy!

As my Nonni would say, "Mangia, Mangia."
